The incumbent will work as a member of a field crew assigned with the protection and recovery efforts involving black footed ferrets in Meeteetse, Wyoming. Must be capable of working long hours each day in all kinds of weather and in remote locations. Duties will consist of walking all day and/or riding ATV while applying insecticide to prairie dog holes to manage flea populations that carry sylvatic plague. The majority of this work occurs on BLM lands and the famous Pitchfork Ranch. Work is at the base of the Absaroka mtns, outside of Yellowstone National Park’s East entrance specifically along the Greybull River. Shared housing (with same gender roommate) is provided along with a camp rate per diem in addition to hourly wage. Work is 40+ hours a week, more hours can be worked with prior arrangement and funding dependent. This unique job opportunity allows for an expense free, paid work experience in some of the nation’s most beautiful natural vistas. It is a temporary position (approximately 7 weeks) with no relocation offered. No benefits are offered with this position and overtime will not be paid. Exact start and end dates will be determined as the season approaches. (Ideally mid-June through mid-August with some accommodations for individual attending institutions of higher learning).

Requirements will include:

  • A willingness and ability to drive an ATV in moderate terrain.
  • Ability to work in outdoor field conditions for extended periods, up to 10+ hr/day
  • Ability to use mechanical delivery systems, GPS equipment and record data
  • Incumbent should be comfortable with occasional wildlife encounters and inclement weather.
