Job Description:
The Wyoming Natural Diversity Database is hiring 1–2 field technicians to assist with a research project designed to understand breeding site occupancy of wood frogs (Lithobates sylvaticus) in the Medicine Bow National Forest of Wyoming five years after the Mullen wildfire. Technicians will conduct tadpole surveys for wood frogs, collect survey data, and measure terrestrial habitat characteristics at each site.

Qualifications:
Fieldwork will require working a flexible schedule (long days, potentially over weekends) in inclement weather (heat, rain, cold, biting insects), hiking off trail in uneven terrain for several miles while carrying field equipment, and working often in moose and black bear habitat. The crew will front country camp (4–5 nights) during the week and have housing provided for days off in Laramie. Candidates should be comfortable working and camping in areas without cell phone service, wifi, showers, or toilets. Technicians must be able to catch, handle, and identify amphibians, and collect accurate data under adverse field conditions. Applicants must be in good physical condition, work well with others, maintain a positive attitude in the field, and exhibit a strong work ethic. A valid US driver’s license is required.
Preference will be given to applicants with experience: 1) navigating with OnX or a handheld gps unit; 2) driving 4×4 vehicles on uneven dirt roads; 3) identifying/capturing/handling amphibians; 4) working varying hours; 5) working in inclement weather; 6) working in remote locations; 7) working and living with a team for extended periods of time; 8) maintaining field equipment; 9) performing meticulous tasks; 10) camping Additional Details: Field vehicle and research equipment will be provided. Some camping gear including camp stoves, propane, coolers, and water jugs will be provided.
