The Wilderness Steward and Wilderness Invasive and Restoration Crew positions are paid internship opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing careers in conservation and natural resources. This field-based training program allows stewards to gain valuable skills that build career opportunities in the Forest Service and non-profit partner field. BMWF offers two different types of Wilderness Steward positions: Wilderness Steward Placements (WSP) and Wilderness Invasives and Restoration Crew (WIRC). Applicants will be placed into one of the two types of positions at the discretion of BMWF’s program staff with consideration taken for personal preference, availability, and relevant experience.
Stewards will report to the BMWF office in the Hungry Horse Ranger Station on May 11th, 2026 for orientation and field training. The position ends with a Graduation Ceremony which takes place on Friday, August 13th. Attendance at training and graduation is required. Some steward positions have the potential to extend their season with the Forest Service through September; please inquire during the interview process if this is of interest to you.
